Join Commissioner of Public Lands Hilary Franz at Climate Forum

April 7, 2022

Next Thursday’s 4th Annual Future of Carbon Policy Forum at Climate Pledge Arena features a roster of dynamic speakers and special guests. And now we’re pleased to announce that Hilary Franz, Commissioner of Public Lands, will be there too! Commissioner Franz will highlight the just-announced, first-in-the-nation forest carbon project, protecting ecologically valuable forests and creating over a million carbon credits.

The United Nations’ Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change report published earlier this week asserts that investments to actively remove carbon dioxide from the atmosphere (CDR) are now an “unavoidable” complement to a rapid transition away from fossil fuels if the world is to achieve net-zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050. Forest sequestration is one of many CDR strategies available to Washington state.

The climate crisis is at our doorstep, and now is the time for bold measures to reduce carbon, protect ecologically significant forests, and provide needed revenue for public schools, libraries, and hospitals. This project is a true win-win for our environment and our communities, and I am thrilled to make Washington state a leader in carbon market opportunities and create a model that can be used on public lands throughout the country,” said Washington Commissioner of Public Lands Hilary Franz. Join us on Thursday at Climate Pledge Arena to hear more.
