As decision-makers in Washington, D.C. are making a U-turn on climate policy, our Washington state decision-makers are moving forward, accelerating progress toward the clean economy that will win the future. In Olympia right now, legislators are budgeting bipartisan investments in clean energy projects and programs made possible by Climate Commitment Act revenues. Across the state, businesses are decarbonizing their fleets, and public-private partnerships are sparking innovations. Because the climate knows no boundaries and has no patience, sub-national action is more important than ever.
Which direction will you go this year?
We invite you to join us for a trip forward, to Brussels & Beyond, Sunday, May 25 to Friday, May 30, to collaborate with business and government leaders in Europe.
Our 5th study mission will cross the Atlantic to learn from Europe’s twenty years of experience with their carbon markets. We will engage with the EU’s Directorate General for Climate and International Carbon Markets. We will learn about the European Trading System’s history and future ambitions. Specific topics will cover sustainable aviation fuels, green hydrogen production, maritime decarbonization, investment from the Social Climate Fund and the planned implementation of the carbon border adjustment mechanism. We will make site visits to key de-carbonization sites in and around Brussels, including the ArcelorMittal steel plant in Ghent. On our return through Iceland, we will tour the Mammoth project, the world’s largest direct air carbon capture and storage facility.
Join Washington state legislators – including Sen. Sharon Shewmake, Rep. Davina Duerr, and Rep. Chris Stearns – and representatives from Amazon, The Nature Conservancy, Puget Sound Energy and more, to increase our understanding of how carbon cap-and-invest programs can accelerate our state’s carbon emissions reduction results, and propel Washington state’s economy forward.
Offered as an optional extension to our Study Mission, Clean & Prosperous Institute and Intrepid Travel have put together a bespoke tour of the very best of Iceland: Picture yourself exploring the sunlit nightlife of Reykjavik, marveling at massive geysers and waterfalls, taking a guided glacier hike, walking among icebergs that rest on black sands, and dipping in the Secret Lagoon, a natural hot spring. These only-in-Iceland experiences will follow after the Study Mission’s standard-itinerary one-day tour of the Climeworks carbon capture facility, and the Carbfix geothermal energy plant.
This special tour of Iceland will cap a memory-making trip to Europe. Details and pricing are HERE.
