Sen. Rolfes and Rep. Boehnke join Future of Carbon Policy Forum

Joining an already-impressive roster of policy leaders are Washington State Senator Christine Rolfes (D-Bainbridge Island) and Washington State Representative Matt Boehnke (R-Richland). Together, they bring perspectives from both sides of the state, both sides of the ballot, and both chambers of the legislature.

Senator Rolfes, as Chair of the Ways and Means Committee, is the Senate’s chief budget writer and negotiator, and helped shepherd passage of historic investments in clean energy through the operating budget. See our summary here.

Representative Boehnke represents a region in our state that is leading on clean energy innovation and is home to Pacific Northwest National Laboratories, Columbia Generating Station, and significant hydropower resources. “If we’re going to reach our greenhouse gas reduction goals and achieve net-zero climate pollution by 2050, we’re going to need to speed up the innovation cycle”, said Boehnke. “Starting businesses, launching strategic initiatives, and taking risks all require a strong business climate that encourages innovation and development”.

Senator Rolfes and Rep. Boehnke will join United States Representative Kim Schrier and the U.S. Department of Energy’s Robert Edwards to provide perspectives from Washington DC to Washington state on the future of carbon policy.

Representing the 8th Congressional District of Washington

Congresswoman Schrier voted in support of the Bipartisan Infrastructure Bill that will provide Washington state with funding to create clean energy jobs and address climate change. As a medical professional, Congresswoman Schrier is keenly focused on how to reduce the health impacts of greenhouse gas emissions.

Robert H. Edwards, Jr.

Director of Outreach and Business Development for the U.S. Department of Energy’s Loan Programs Office (LPO) in Washington, D.C.

Mr. Edwards leads LPO’s business development activities to support innovative energy projects in the U.S. that will accelerate the transition to a clean energy economy. Previously, Mr. Edwards structured and led negotiations of the groundbreaking $465 million loan to Tesla issued under LPO’s Advanced Technology Vehicle Manufacturing Loan Program.

Washington State Senator Christine Rolfes

Representing the 23rd Legislative District (Kitsap County) and chair of the Senate Ways and Means Committee, responsible for leading the development of the state’s $52 billion biennial budget. Also serves on the Senate Agriculture and Natural Resources Committee.

Washington State Senator Marko Liias

Representing the 21st Legislative District (Edmonds, Mukilteo) and chair of the Senate Transportation Committee which led the passage of the Move Ahead Washington transportation package.

Washington State Representative Matt Boehnke

Representing the 8th Legislative District (Richland, West Richland and Kennewick) and ranking member of the Community and Economic Development Committee. Also a member of the House Appropriations and Environment and Energy committees, and chair of the bipartisan, bicameral Supply Chain Legislative Caucus.
